A SIP trunk is a virtual connection that uses the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) to deliver voice and other unified communications services over the internet, effectively replacing traditional phone lines. A SIP gateway, on the other hand, acts as a bridge between the traditional Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and an IP network, enabling interoperability between legacy telephony systems and modern VoIP systems. Essentially, SIP trunks are used for direct SIP-based communications, while SIP gateways facilitate integration between different telecommunication technologies.
