According to NFPA 72, strobe lights used for fire alarm notification must have a minimum flash rate of 1 flash per second and a maximum of 2 flashes per second. They must also meet specific candela (intensity) ratings based on the size and use of the area, and be installed so that the light is visible throughout the protected space, following mounting height and spacing guidelines specified in the code.
